Who is Joseph Gentleman?

Joseph Gentleman is a Lynn native who has over 20 years of experience working at the Southern Essex District Registry of Deeds. Joseph had the pleasure of working in the Salem office under long-time Register of Deeds John O'Brien who ran one of the best Registries of Deeds in Massachusetts. Joseph is a U.S. Navy Veteran, former Secretary-Treasurer for the IAM Local Union S-25 Ship Builders in Boston and has held many leadership roles in the community, including running many foundations. Joseph is a member of the Lions Clubs International organization which donates humanitarian service locally and around the globe.

Joseph, husband of Jeannine (Langlais) also a native of Lynn, MA and she is a past District Governor of Lions International. Joseph and Jeannine are both graduates of Lynn Classical High School and now resides in Peabody MA. Joseph is the father of the late Tim Gentleman and father-in-law of the late Laura Gentleman and grandfather of five grandchildren.

Platform

Joseph is running for the office of Southern Essex District Register of Deeds to help homeowners protect their homes and to fight fraud by promoting the Homestead Act and continuing with the successful Property Fraud Watch program. Joseph has a working knowledge of all Registry departments including Registered Land. He will continue to follow the Massachusetts Deed Indexing Standards guidelines and Massachusetts General Laws for recording plans and documents to ensure that property owners are able to easily find documents relevant to their search. He aims to enhance customer service and to improve registry services to make them more accessible and efficient for the public. Joseph's goal is to bring his experience and dedication to the role of Register of Deeds.

Why have you decided to run for Register of Deeds?

I am running for Register of Deeds to help fight fraud and protect home ownership, to follow the Indexing Standards required in all Massachusetts Registries, and to lead one of the best run Registries in the state.

What do you feel is the most important duty of the Register of Deeds?

The duty to be available to the public and enhance on-line security.

What are the issues you would address once elected?

Protecting homeowners by keeping abreast of the latest scams perpetrated on unsuspecting homeowners, especially the elderly. Ensuring all who need registry services can access them whether on-line or in person. Promoting and educating about local history, continuing the veterans memorial project as well as the Native American deeds project.

As current President of the Lynn Lions Club, I have demonstrated exceptional leadership, organizing community service projects and events that have positively impacted many lives. This role has strengthened my management skills, making me well-equipped to serve as Register of Deeds.
